Millions Paid Out This Year to Victims of SIRVA - Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration

Vaccines are an integral part of public health. However, each year people throughout the United States suffer vaccine-related injuries.

In most cases, the injuries are not due to the vaccine itself, but how the shot is administered.

So far in 2016, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has paid out $25 million to people who have suffered shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA).

SIRVA is often called flu shot shoulder, and while it is relatively rare, it can be devastating for victims. Often SIRVA is caused when a shot is administered too high on the shoulder.

(In one of our previous posts, we discussed why vaccine injuries have been on the rise.)

Vaccine makers are in a high-risk industry, and a federal program was created not only to help keep vaccine makers in business, but also to provide compensation to vaccine injury victims.

The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) provides compensation to victims of SIRVA, which can result in pain, weakness and loss of function. The reality is that SIRVA can be severe enough to affect a person for the rest of his or her life.

Obtaining compensation for a vaccine injury is generally more complicated than most SIRVA victims realize. While the VICP was designed to expedite injury claims to get victims the compensation they need, it is typically necessary to have a lawyer on your side if you want to navigate the process as smoothly as possible. And very few attorneys are familiar with the VICP. Without an experienced lawyer to handle you claim, your wait time could be quite long, or your claim could be denied.

If you would like to learn more about SIRVA and the VICP, please see Schexnaydre Law Firm's vaccine injury overview. We advise and represent vaccine injury victims in Louisiana and throughout the U.S.
